TTEC praised for training vision
By Trinidad & Tobago’s Newsday         July 20, 2010    04:03:00 AM
Permanent Secretary in the Public Utilities Ministry Jacqueline Ganteaume-Farell said proper planning is needed for the country’s economic and infrastructural development.

She spoke on Saturday at the graduation ceremony for 21 participants of a training programme of the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission’s (TTEC) Penal Technical Training Facility.

The graduation ceremony took place at the
StanleyOttleyBuilding, Uriah Butler Highway, Mt Hope.

The young men were trained for three and a half years in electrical installation at the domestic and industrial levels with advanced training as sub-station electricians and linesmen.

Ganteaume-Farell commended TTEC for their forward thinking initiative to train the apprentices and turn them into skilled technicians through a curriculum of applied trade skills.

She said this provided participants with the right blend of theoretical knowledge and practical expertise to meet the evolving needs of the industry.

“TTEC’s vision is to create a reserve skills bank of trained technicians that would ensure the continuous delivery of quality electricity service to the national community,” she said. “Identifying and attending to Trinidad and Tobago’s future needs is necessary for ensuring that we are able to meet the demands of our growing nation in the future. As the line ministry, it gives us great pleasure to know that from the evidence provided here with this programme, TTEC is already in sync with this perspective.”

Other benefits of the programme, Ganteaume-Farell pointed out, included the training of youth in vocational skills and the award of formal accreditation to graduates.
