PEMEX restores 81% of oil production after “Dean”
By AFP         August 25, 2007    05:05:00 AM
Mexico's state oil company Pemex has restored 81 percent of oil production after Hurricane Dean crashed through its southern Gulf of Mexico oil fields, the company said Saturday.

"This result was achieved three days early, reaching a production of 2.1 million barrels (per day)," the company said.

"Also a total of 10,000 workers are back at their jobs after being evacuated," it said.

Pemex evacuated 18,000 people from 407 production platforms in the area before Dean plowed through after hitting the Yucatan peninsula.

The storm weakened Thursday as it continued into the Mexican mainland, where 12 people died in mudslides, floods and other storm-related incidents.
